CAMP HUMPHREYS, KOREA – Humphreys Central Elementary School (HCES) hosted an unforgettable "Night Under the Stars" Thursday, October 26, transforming the school’s soccer field into an outdoor learning extravaganza and bringing together students, parents, and teachers for a night of celestial wonder.

The event was organized by Mr. Taylor, the school's ET, in collaboration with dedicated educators and high school student volunteers.

"So many of our families are out here tonight enjoying the activities and the night sky,” said Mr. Taylor, brimming with enthusiasm.

The event featured a wide array of activities that catered to all ages and interests. Under the starlit sky, students found themselves engrossed in various educational stations. They read in cozy tents illuminated by lanterns, constructed "name rocket ships," played "phases of the moon" BINGO, and crafted sundials using toothpicks. They also explored designing zodiac constellations and engaged in moonwalk races, all while using peg boards to construct celestial art and sequence the phases of the moon. The night's activities also offered students an opportunity to simulate bee-bots moving through space, adding an educational twist to the evening's festivities.

"Each year we do this event, it just keeps getting better," said Ms. Camus, HCES fourth grade educator.

The soccer field was thoughtfully set up with a multitude of activities, and a perimeter gate allowed students to move freely from one station to another. Parents, meanwhile, relaxed on chairs and blankets they brought along, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.

At the heart of the soccer field stood the "star" attraction – high-powered telescopes. Both students and parents eagerly lined up for the opportunity to peer through these remarkable instruments and witness the wonders of the night sky. Saturn and Mars, stars, and even the craters on the moon were brought into sharp focus, giving attendees a magical glimpse into the cosmos.

"I am having so much fun out here, and I couldn't believe I could see the moon in the telescope,” remarked one second grade student.

The event was a testament to the sense of community at HCES, where students, parents and teachers come together to learn, bond – and have fun!
